Unlike many public health issues, the prevention of substance use and abuse has been done in “silos”. This workshop will examine the issues related to the need for developing strategies to alter the “silo” approach so that “cradle to the grave” substance abuse prevention can be implemented using public health models and relying on existing knowledge to more effectively deliver comprehensive prevention services. The importance of the stages of human growth and development will be considered as they relate to choosing and implementing effective prevention strategies.
