Mock Court Program

Mock Court

Mock Court program is designed to raise awareness and educate our youth on the dangers of substance abuse, Tri-County Mental Health Services, Clay and Platte County Prosecutors and Sheriff’s Office, Kansas City Police Department, the Northland Coalition, Youth With Vision, and local MADD members have teamed up to present a Mock Court Trial, 18 Facing 15.

This half-day mock court will allow students to become actively involved as gallery and jury members and decide the verdict in an involuntary manslaughter trial which involves underage drinking and driving.

Students will:
▪ develop a greater understanding of the legal and personal consequences of underage use of alcohol
▪ develop appreciation and respect for the law, court procedures, and the judicial system
▪ increase understanding of their legal rights and responsibilities

Local law enforcement and legal professionals will assume their “real-life” roles for the proceedings. Youth With Vision members and boosters and MADD members will assume additional roles.

Mock Court 2009
will be held
October 16th
at the Clay County Courthouse and on October 23rd at the Platte
County Courthouse.
