Smithville Community 2000 has been serving the community since 1995. Three fourths of Smithville’s Community 2000 members have been active since the organization’s beginning, and new members are constantly being recruited to bring a fresh perspective and new insight to the table.  Youth involvement has been instrumental to our success.  Smithville Community 2000 has designated leadership committed to the principles of community based prevention.  These individuals work toward specific and realistic goals and objectives.

Smithville Community 2000 prides itself on the accomplishments over the years.  As the field of prevention has changed, so has the Smithville Community 2000 approach to substance abuse within the community. When Smithville Community 2000 was formed, its focus was on information dissemination and awareness initiatives.  Smithville Community 2000 initiated the first After Prom event, which was later taken on by the Ultimate Warriors at Smithville High School, and is now planned and implemented by parents.  Members have now expanded their focus to include environmental and best practice strategies and programming that provides skill building.

Smithville Community 2000 has sponsored numerous community education programs including:

  • Adult Mentoring Program
  • All Stars, Best Practice Program
  • Bullying Prevention Parent Information Evening
  • Developmental Assets – Raising Successful Children
  • Rachel’s Challenge
  • Service Learning Day
  • Social Marketing Campaigns
  • Social Norming Program
    • Partnership with the local DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) chapter brought state recognition for working with the business community to reduce methamphetamine production.
  • Underage Drinking Video and Speakers Bureau
  • Local and Regional Environmental Strategies
    • Alcohol and Other Drugs at Open House Parties Ordinance, prior to becoming state law.
    • Keg Tracking Ordinance, the first in the state
    • Tobacco Free Campus Policy

Mission Statement
